Seal of Biliteracy Opportunity
I am excited to share information about the Seal of Biliteracy, an award given at graduation to students who have demonstrated proficiency in two or more languages. This is a wonderful opportunity to honor students who have developed bilingual skills, whether through school, family, or personal experiences.
How to Qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy: To earn the Seal of Biliteracy, students must demonstrate proficiency in both English and another language.
English Proficiency: Students must complete all required English Language Arts (ELA) coursework for graduation with an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in those courses. Additionally, they must meet one of the following:
• WorkKeys English assessments: Score of 4 (Silver) or higher in Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents
• EdReady: Proficiency score of 90
• Next Generation Accuplacer: Score of 241 in Reading OR 236 in Writing
• English 121 – English Composition I: Grade of C or better
• WIDA ACCESS: Score of 4.0 Overall and 4.0 in Literacy (or comparable TELL scores)
• A passing score on an internationally/nationally recognized test, such as AAPPL, IELTS, or TOEFL
Proficiency in Another Language: Students must demonstrate proficiency in another language through one of the following:
• Taking a test and participating in an interview
• Submitting an essay in the target language
• Recording a voice sample speaking in the language
How to Apply: Students interested in earning the Seal of Biliteracy can nominate themselves by scanning the QR codes or using this form. Additionally, brochures with more details are available in the Student Success center.
