Junior ROTC

The Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) at Sand Creek High School provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, explore aerospace and aviation, strengthen teamwork, and prepare for future success. Through hands-on learning, classroom instruction, physical fitness, and leadership experiences, students build confidence, responsibility, and skills that apply to any career path.

AFJROTC is open to students interested in leadership development, aviation, aerospace, teamwork, service, and personal growth. Students do not need to plan a military career to participate. The skills gained through AFJROTC—communication, organization, problem-solving, accountability, and leadership—benefit students in college, careers, and everyday life.

What Students Experience

Students in AFJROTC explore topics including aviation history, aerospace science, global awareness, leadership, wellness, career planning, and life skills. Through each year of the program, students take on increasing levels of responsibility while developing their ability to lead and work as part of a team.

Experiences may include:

  • Aerospace and Aviation Exploration – Learn about the history of flight, aviation milestones, space exploration, and the science behind aerospace technology.
  • Leadership Development – Build skills in communication, teamwork, decision-making, time management, and leading others.
  • Citizenship and Global Awareness – Explore cultures, world affairs, geography, history, and the issues that shape communities around the world.
  • Career and Life Skills – Develop skills related to college and career planning, financial literacy, workplace readiness, and personal responsibility.
  • Wellness and Fitness – Learn lifelong habits that support physical fitness, health, and overall well-being.
  • Cadet Leadership Opportunities – Advanced students have opportunities to manage and lead within the cadet corps while applying leadership concepts in real-world settings.

AFJROTC Courses

The AFJROTC program is a four-year sequence:

AFJROTC Year 1
Students are introduced to aviation history, leadership fundamentals, Air Force customs and courtesies, drill skills, uniform wear, and wellness.

AFJROTC Year 2
Students explore global cultures and develop communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership skills.

AFJROTC Year 3
Students study space exploration and aerospace science while focusing on life skills, career opportunities, financial literacy, and preparing for life after high school.

AFJROTC Year 4
Senior cadets apply leadership skills by managing and supporting the cadet corps while gaining advanced experience in organization, responsibility, and leadership.

Students completing AFJROTC develop valuable skills that prepare them for college, careers, military service, and leadership opportunities in their communities.
